The Center for Courageous Wholeness is an educational institution dedicated advancing inner development as infrastructure in our democracy and in our institutions.

The work of the Center for Courageous Wholeness is grounded in a simple but powerful belief:

We have reached the limits of our ability to respond meaningfully to the challenges of this moment without turning inward to confront our shadow.

Today’s leaders face crises of polarization, institutional fragility, and social fragmentation. Yet our efforts to address these challenges often focus primarily on technical fixes and external strategies and systems. What is missing is the inner work required to lead with clarity, integrity, and wholeness.

The good news is that we know how to do this work—and how to do it powerfully and at scale. What is lacking is the developmental infrastructure needed to support it within our institutions and our democracy.

The Center for Courageous Wholeness exists to advance inner development as infrastructure.

About the Founder

The Center was founded by Dr. Max Klau, a Havard-educated leadership expert, Integral Master Coach, Inner Development Goals Ambassador, author and speaker.

He spent ten years doing leadership development at City Year, the education-focused AmeriCorps program, where he refined an approach to guiding servant leaders through a powerful process of inner development at sacle. He then stepped into the role of Chief Program Officer at New Politics Academy, and organization dedicated to recruiting and supporting servant leaders—military vets and alumni of national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps to run for political office.

He is the author of Develoming Servant Leaders at Scale: How to Do It and Why It Matters, published in October 2025. He founded the Center to bring this approach to scalable inner development for servant leaders out into the world.
